Dr. Wade Jacobsen is an associate professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. He is also a faculty associate at the Maryland Population Research Center and a member of the research team for the Maryland Longitudinal Data System Center. His research examines how the development of risky behaviors in childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood is shaped by interactions with institutions (e.g., schools, criminal legal system) and social networks. Most of his current research assesses the impacts of a youth’s experience with school discipline or criminal justice involvement on changes in their peer networks and risky behaviors. Before his current appointment at UMD, he worked as a research specialist for the Center for Research on Child Wellbeing at Princeton University (Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study) and then as a graduate research assistant for the PROSPER Peers Project at Penn State University.
NUSS is the Nebraska Undergraduate Sociological Symposium. NUSS supports undergraduate student research in sociology and encourages critical thinking and social action. Students present papers or projects at a yearly conference hosted by member colleges and universities in the state of Nebraska. Each year participating campuses around Nebraska host the event designed to stimulate student interest and engage our undergraduates with social issues locally, regionally, and globally.
With the occurrence of the pandemic, NUSS has been on hiatus for two years. As we rebuild interest and momentum in this conference, please consider presenting and/or attending.
NUSS welcomes undergraduate student submissions from around the state. The goal is to provide Nebraska undergraduates with a platform to present papers and creative projects, as well as prepare students to present in an academic, yet supportive environment. NUSS also gives the opportunity for networking, obtaining graduate school information, and attending informative student panels on topics such as undergraduate research fellowships, internships, and study abroad.
A special thank you to all students, past and present who have made this a success. We are grateful for your passion and dedication to the discipline!
